Dunwoody High School graduate Ella Holland is two shutouts away from tying Eastern Michigan University’s career record after recording her 22nd clean sheet earlier this month.

The redshirt senior goalkeeper reached that mark in a 1-0 win over Ball State on Thursday, Oct. 1. She played all 90 minutes without facing a shot on goal, according to EMU’s game recap.

Holland ranks third in program history. Monique Budani holds the school record with 24 career shutouts.

Holland remained at 22 after Eastern Michigan lost 3-1 to Miami on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti, Mich. She made three saves and played the full match, bringing her EMU career saves total to 295, according to the team’s recap.

The defeat ended the Eagles’ nine-game unbeaten streak, which had tied the program record. Two Miami goals 40 seconds apart in the 75th minute broke a 1-1 tie.

Eastern Michigan fell to 6-2-4 overall and 4-1-1 in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles remained tied with Western Michigan atop the conference standings, with 13 points apiece.

Holland earned MAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Sept. 1 and Sept. 29, giving her four career awards. In its Sept. 29 announcement, EMU credited her with four saves in a 2-0 win at Buffalo.

Her durability has also stood out. EMU reported that Holland reached a school-record 4,140 consecutive minutes played in the Oct. 1 win. The team’s Oct. 10 preview listed 48 consecutive starts entering the Miami match.

Before college, Holland was a four-year letter winner at Dunwoody High and captained the Wildcats as a senior, according to her EMU biography. She helped Dunwoody win a Class 7A region championship that season and earned First Team All-Region honors. As a junior, she was named 7A Goalkeeper of the Year.

Holland also played seven years for Atlanta Fire United. She began her college career at Samford University, redshirting during the 2022 season before moving to Eastern Michigan. Samford won its ninth consecutive Southern Conference regular-season title and the conference tournament that year.

Holland and the Eagles next host Western Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 4:30 p.m. at Scicluna Field.

The remaining regular-season schedule includes a trip to Ohio on Oct. 18, a home match against Toledo on Oct. 24, a visit to Akron on Oct. 29 and a home finale against Massachusetts on Nov. 1.
