DeKalb County School District students earned 12% more Advanced Placement exam scores of 3 or higher during the 2025–26 school year, alongside an increase in the number of exams taken.

The districtwide gains offer encouraging news for families at Dunwoody High School and Chamblee High School, though the announcement did not provide AP results for either school individually.

The number of AP exams taken rose 4.9% compared with the previous school year, and the share earning scores of 3 or higher also increased, according to OCG News. Fifteen high schools increased exam participation, while 17 improved their percentage of qualifying scores.

AP exams are scored on a five-point scale. Many colleges award credit or advanced placement for scores of 3 or higher, but requirements vary by institution, according to the College Board.

Superintendent Norman C. Sauce III shared the results on X, crediting students and teachers for the gains.

Graduation rates also rise

The AP results follow record graduation figures for the district. DCSD’s four-year graduation rate reached 83.3% for the Class of 2026, its highest on record.

Dunwoody High posted a 91.7% graduation rate, exceeding 90% for the first time, according to the school’s PTSO.

The school board appointed Sauce permanent superintendent on Oct. 5 in a 4-1-1 vote. At the meeting, he pointed to graduation rates, gifted education access and AP participation and performance as signs of progress, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

Dunwoody AP exam deadline is Oct. 15

Dunwoody families have an immediate deadline: registration for AP exams associated with fall 2026 courses closes Thursday, Oct. 15.

Students must enroll in the appropriate course through AP Classroom and complete exam registration through Total Registration. Completing only one step does not finish the process, according to the PTSO.
