DeKalb County is holding six free town halls in October so voters can prepare for the Nov. 3 General Election.
The "Know Before You Vote Education Series" is organized by DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE). Sessions cover registration status, early voting procedures, absentee ballots, voter ID requirements, accessibility resources and how to find polling locations, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. Each session also addresses how to verify official election information and prepare for a potential runoff.
All six sessions start at 5:30 p.m.
Campaigning and electioneering are not allowed.
For Dunwoody and Brookhaven residents, the nearest session is Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Northlake–Barbara Loar Library, 3772 LaVista Road, Tucker. Five other sessions in Decatur and Lithonia run through Wednesday, Oct. 21.
"Voting with confidence starts with having clear, reliable information," DeKalb VRE Executive Director Keisha L. Smith said in a county release. "Through these series of town halls happening across the county, DeKalb voters can become more prepared to participate in the November election and any potential runoff."
Early voting opens Tuesday, Oct. 13, and runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Weekday hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday voting is available Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday voting is available Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, from noon to 6 p.m.
Dunwoody Library, at 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, is one of 22 early voting locations countywide and has an absentee ballot drop box. DeKalb VRE expanded the number of sites from 20 to 22 for this election, adding Living Grace Lutheran Church in Tucker and Wade Walker Park Family YMCA in Stone Mountain for the final week, Oct. 26–30.
Voters who prefer to vote absentee by mail must request a ballot by Friday, Oct. 23. Completed ballots must be received, not postmarked, by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3, according to DeKalb's election website. Ballots can be hand-delivered to the DeKalb VRE office or to any early voting location during voting hours.
The Nov. 3 ballot also includes a Brookhaven City Council District 2 special election to fill the seat vacated by Jennifer Owens. Conor Sen was appointed to the seat in July and is serving until the special election. As we reported Oct. 9, DeKalb's proposed $1 billion ESPLOST VII school tax is also on the ballot.
A potential runoff, if needed, is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1. Voters can reach DeKalb VRE at (404) 298-4020 or [email protected].
