Dunwoody is recruiting volunteers to fan out across the city on Saturday, Nov. 14, picking up trash along streets, streams and wooded areas before it washes into local waterways.
The city announced the #GreatDunwoodyCleanup on Oct. 14, calling it a flexible, all-day effort open to individuals, families, schools, neighborhood teams and civic groups. No formal registration is required. Volunteers choose their own spot and work at their own pace, sunrise to sunset, according to the city's event page.
Stormwater manager Cody Dallas said the event connects everyday litter removal to creek health. "When volunteers clear trash before it reaches a storm drain, they're directly preventing pollution in our creeks," Dallas said in the city's announcement.
Dallas added that the cleanup keeps gaining momentum because it is easy for anyone to jump in. The choose-your-own-spot format means a family can tackle a cul-de-sac while a scout troop works a stretch of creek bank, all on the same day without coordinating schedules.
Eligible cleanup sites include streets, neighborhood common areas, streams and wooded spaces anywhere inside Dunwoody. The city asks participants to photograph their work and share it on social media with the hashtag #GreatDunwoodyCleanup. Photos can also be emailed to [email protected].
Students and other volunteers who need community service verification can request it through the same email address, the city said.
The city's announcement did not mention whether supplies such as bags or gloves would be provided. Residents can visit dunwoodyga.gov/community/greatdunwoodycleanup for full details.
