Brookhaven residents can book city park pavilions, gyms, athletic fields, pools and community rooms at half price.
The Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department offers a 50% discount on hourly facility rental fees for residents in four ZIP codes: 30341, 30319, 30329 and 30324, according to the city's facility reservations page. The city outlined the reservation process in a Nov. 4 post on Rough Draft Atlanta written by Veronica Grimaldo with the city.
The discount applies to standard facility rentals across the city's park system. The department manages more than 15 parks, two recreation centers and three community pools, according to a July city press release.
How to reserve
Residents start by visiting the city's Rec 1 website and selecting the Facility Reservations tab. Listings include rental hours, fees, parking availability and maximum occupancy for each space.
A few rules apply. Rental requests made 14 days or less before the desired date will not be accepted. The city evaluates each request based on anticipated attendance, parking and other activities on site.
Once a request is approved, the full balance must be paid within two business days or by an otherwise specified deadline. Miss that window, and the temporary hold is removed. The date goes back on the open calendar.
Booked time includes setup and breakdown, so plan accordingly.
Who to contact
The city splits facility questions among three email addresses:
- Pavilions, multipurpose fields, rooms and activity buildings: [email protected]
- Turf fields, softball fields, volleyball courts, tennis courts and gyms: [email protected]
- Pools and splash pad: [email protected]
Special events and alcohol
Larger gatherings such as festivals, races, block parties and walk/run events require a separate special event application through the city's project portal, in addition to the standard facility reservation. Special event applications are accepted 30 days in advance, and the standard reservation must be submitted first to hold the date.
Special event fees stack on top of the rental rate. Application fees run $100, or $50 for nonprofits. Permit fees range from $200 for events of 100 people or fewer to $3,000 for crowds above 5,000.
Events with alcohol need at least 45 days' advance notice for a background check. The alcohol permit fee is $40, and the background check costs $10 for Brookhaven residents or $20 for non-residents.
