Van Leeuwen Ice Cream opened its doors Thursday, Aug. 13, at Park Place Shopping Center, giving Dunwoody its own outpost of the New York City-born brand known for French-style scoops and inventive vegan flavors.

The shop at 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. NE, Suite 150, sits across from Perimeter Mall and is Van Leeuwen's third location in metro Atlanta. The City of Dunwoody confirmed the opening on its official social media account Aug. 14, listing regular hours as Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Co-founder and CEO Ben Van Leeuwen said in an Aug. 10 press release that the company was eager to put down roots in the neighborhood: "Every new shop is an opportunity to become part of a neighborhood, and that's what we're looking forward to in Dunwoody."

Ben Van Leeuwen, his brother Pete and Laura O'Neill started the company in 2008 with a single yellow scoop truck in New York. It grew from there. The brand now operates shops across the country and is known for ice cream made with more than double the egg yolks of standard recipes, plus viral limited-edition flavors like Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and an espresso collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter.

The Dunwoody menu includes Vanilla Bean (named best vanilla ice cream by The New York Times' Wirecutter), BIGFACE Coffee Affogato, Mango Sticky Rice, Strawberry Matcha Latte and vegan options such as Banana Bread Pudding with Fudge Swirls and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Beyond scoops in cups or house-made waffle cones, the shop serves sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats and 14-ounce pints to take home.

The grand opening drew customers with $1 scoops from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and free limited-edition tote bags for the first 100 guests, according to The Aha! Connection.

Van Leeuwen joins a wave of new tenants at Park Place, the 88,280-square-foot center owned by EDENS. The South Carolina-based retail real estate firm announced in 2024 a plan to transform the property into what it called "a vibrant modern village," starting with a courtyard renovation completed that year. Le Faucheur Tearoom opened April 3, and Irving, Texas-based Simply South Pure Indian Vegetarian is slated to open in October in the 7,000-square-foot former Alon's Bakery space at the front of the center, according to Rough Draft Atlanta.

Simply South Pure Indian Vegetarian is slated to be the center's next new tenant when it opens in October.
