Brookhaven's Project Portal has processed 2,153 permits in the first eight months of 2026, the city announced Thursday, Aug. 27.

The online system now has approximately 13,000 registered users, according to the city's announcement. The Community Development Department said it plans to launch a redesigned, more user-friendly version of the portal in summer 2027. No further details on the redesign have been released.

The portal handles the full permitting process electronically. Residents and contractors can submit plans, apply for building and land development permits, pay fees, schedule inspections from a mobile device 24/7, and track permit status from the field. Users also receive email notifications about review comments, permit approvals, and inspection results.

No in-person visit required.

The system replaces the need to appear at the city's PEP Building at 2665 Buford Highway for permit applications, which the city described as part of its commitment to sustainability through paperless operations.

How to use the portal

Anyone planning construction or redevelopment in Brookhaven needs a city permit. The city's Building Permits page offers a 2025 edition user guide as a PDF download.

After submitting an application, the city advises allowing 10 business days for review. Applicants who haven't received comments or approval after that window should contact a permit tech to check their status.
