Dunwoody and Brookhaven voters can cast ballots starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, at any of 22 early voting locations across DeKalb County.

Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election. DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) expanded the number of sites from 20 to 22 after an August stakeholder meeting on voter access, according to a DeKalb VRE press release.

Voters may use any of the 22 locations. Home precinct doesn't matter.

Nearby sites for Dunwoody and Brookhaven voters

The Dunwoody Library, 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, is one of six locations with an absentee ballot drop box. The North DeKalb Senior Center, 3393 Malone Drive in Chamblee, is another option, according to WABE. The Briarwood Recreation Center, 2235 Briarwood Way NE, is also among the 22 sites and serves Brookhaven-area voters.

Two new sites open only during the final week. Living Grace Lutheran Church in Tucker and Wade Walker Park Family YMCA in Stone Mountain operate weekdays Oct. 26–30, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Absentee ballots

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is Friday, Oct. 23. Completed ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. Hand-deliver absentee ballots to the DeKalb VRE Office at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 500, in Decatur or to any early voting site, according to DeKalb VRE. Request one at dekalbvotes.com or by calling 404-298-4020.

What's on the ballot

Statewide races include governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, one U.S. Senate seat and all U.S. House seats. Locally, the DeKalb County Commission District 2 seat pits incumbent Michelle Long Spears against Republican Ben Pepper, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. That district stretches from Brookhaven to Decatur. A Brookhaven City Council District 2 special election is also on the ballot; Conor Sen, appointed after Jennifer Owens vacated the seat, is the only qualified candidate.

As we reported Oct. 9, DeKalb's proposed $1 billion school tax renewal is also before voters.

Keisha L. Smith, executive director of DeKalb VRE, said in a Sept. 16 press release reported by WSB-TV that the expansion gives voters "more choices during the final week of Early Voting."

The voter registration deadline for this election was Oct. 5. Voters can check their registration, find their polling place and view a sample ballot at the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page, mvp.sos.ga.gov. If any race goes to a runoff, it is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1.
