A trash fire behind the Cheesecake Factory at Perimeter Mall sent black smoke over Dunwoody on Wednesday, Sept. 2. One employee was taken to the hospital.

The DeKalb County Fire Department said the flames started in a pile of trash behind the restaurant, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. A department representative called it a "significant" fire, according to Atlanta News First.

Early reports pointed to the neighboring P.F. Chang's as the fire's origin. Officials later identified the source as the trash pile behind the Cheesecake Factory.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control, but a heavy fire department presence remained in the area afterward. The employee's identity and condition have not been released.

The cause remains under investigation. Officials have not said what started the fire.
