Oglethorpe goalkeeper Sebastian Lewis buried a penalty kick in the 86th minute to beat Centre College 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 4. The win gave the Petrels their first Southern Athletic Association victory of the 2026 season.
It was Lewis's first career goal.
The Roswell, Ga., native and Centennial High School graduate stepped to the spot after Centre committed a foul in the box, then beat Colonels goalkeeper Declan Miller on the penalty. Rain was pouring at Oglethorpe's turf field in Brookhaven when the ball hit the net at 85 minutes and 14 seconds, according to the official game recap.
Lewis wasn't the first Petrel to get a chance from the spot. Luca Orsi drew a penalty in the 72nd minute, but Miller made the save. A 30-minute lightning delay followed, pushing the match deep into the evening. When play resumed, Centre fouled again in the box, and this time Lewis walked up to take the kick himself.
Beyond the penalty, Lewis finished with six saves and his third shutout of the season, holding Centre scoreless despite the Colonels putting six of their eight shots on target.
Nick Krull, Kenny Griffin and Angelo Nkosi accounted for the Petrels' only three shots in the first half, while Centre managed just one. Ethan Martinez tested Miller early in the second half with a shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the Centre keeper recovered.
The box score reflected a tight, physical match. Centre committed 15 fouls to Oglethorpe's eight. The Petrels held a 10-8 edge in total shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
An alumni tailgate drew families to a VIP section beside the field for the match, giving the crowd extra reason to celebrate when Lewis's penalty found the net.
Oglethorpe owns a 4-1 record against Centre in the last five meetings between the programs. The Petrels travel to Jackson, Mississippi, on Friday, Oct. 9, for an 8 p.m. ET SAA matchup against Millsaps College.
