A former DeKalb County police sergeant has been indicted on rape, kidnapping and other charges after authorities said DNA collected following his federal arrest linked him to the alleged sexual assaults of two teenagers in 2011.

A grand jury returned the indictment against Cameron Livsey, 47, on Tuesday, Oct. 6. District Attorney Sherry Boston and Police Chief Gregory Padrick announced the case Wednesday.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the state charges include rape, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated sexual battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Livsey was a DeKalb County police officer when the alleged crimes occurred. He later became a sergeant and left the department July 7, 2026, after resigning in lieu of termination, officials said.

DNA connects investigations

Prosecutors allege a gunman approached two friends, ages 16 and 17, at Exchange Park on Oct. 8, 2011, robbed them and sexually assaulted them.

The attacker allegedly ordered the older teenager to leave, then forced the younger girl into a Dodge Charger and took her to a house, where she reported another sexual assault. She was later left at an apartment complex.

WSB-TV reported that a hospital examination recovered male DNA. Investigators entered the profile into CODIS, the national DNA database, but initially found no match.

Federal agents arrested Livsey April 30 in an unrelated investigation involving alleged access to child sexual abuse material. Authorities said DNA obtained after that arrest matched evidence from the 2011 case.

The AJC reported that Livsey was federally indicted in May on two counts involving alleged intent to view depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. That case remains pending.

Former officer remains in custody

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Livsey was initially released with restrictions on electronic devices and pornography. Prosecutors later obtained revocation of his release after officers reported finding prohibited items during an Aug. 21 compliance search. He has remained in federal custody since that date.

Padrick said Livsey spent most of his police career on patrol and, to his knowledge, did not participate in the original assault investigation.

Boston said the state charges carry a possible maximum sentence of life without parole, five additional life sentences and 90 years. Livsey is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Investigators seek information

Authorities are reviewing other unsolved sexual assault cases for possible similarities. Investigators said Livsey frequented DeKalb County parks and drove a Dodge Charger whose appearance could vary from silver to blue or black depending on lighting.
