A 38-year-old man died Saturday evening, July 25, after DeKalb County Fire Rescue responded to a drowning call on Mountain Oaks Parkway in Stone Mountain.

First responders found Devon Marion unconscious and not breathing when they arrived at the scene, according to DeKalb County Fire Rescue. Crews provided emergency medical care before paramedics transported Marion to a local hospital.

Marion was pronounced dead despite receiving emergency treatment, the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed.

Investigation ongoing

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office has not released an official cause of death. Authorities have also not disclosed what led up to the drowning call or identified the specific body of water involved.

Neither DeKalb County Fire Rescue nor the Medical Examiner's Office has announced a timeline for releasing additional findings.

Mountain Oaks Parkway runs through a residential neighborhood in Stone Mountain, within unincorporated DeKalb County. The street sits east of the Dunwoody and Brookhaven city limits but falls within DeKalb County Fire Rescue's service area.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause and manner of death. That finding could clarify whether this was a swimming accident, a medical event, or something else entirely.
