Democrat Michelle Long Spears is seeking reelection to DeKalb County Commission District 2 in the Nov. 3, 2026, election against Republican Ben Pepper.

Her county biography describes a nonprofit and social-impact consulting background and degrees from the University of Houston, University of Phoenix and Georgia State University.

Housing and services

Her District 2 website identifies housing affordability as a priority. It says her office sponsored a comprehensive housing plan, a community land trust feasibility study and an affordable housing fund. Those initiatives are descriptions of her record, not guarantees that individual residents will receive housing assistance.

The office says the housing fund is intended to phase in over three years, starting with county general funds and pursuing grants and other sources. Future appropriations and implementation decisions affect the money actually available.

Animal welfare and authority

Her animal-services priorities address shelter capacity, prevention and support for residents and pets.

A commissioner participates in collective board decisions on budgets and policy. The office does not independently control every municipality’s zoning or spending. These initiatives could affect county housing and animal services, but the sources reviewed do not establish specific future household savings or program outcomes.

The Dunwoody-Brookhaven Ledger did not receive a direct questionnaire response from the candidate and does not endorse candidates.
