A 26-year-old man was shot and killed on Thursday, July 23, on I-285 northbound near the Buford Highway exit after he followed a hit-and-run driver to the next off-ramp and tried to photograph the vehicle, according to the victim's family and DeKalb County police statements reported by 11Alive.

The victim's father, Anton Sieber, identified his son as Tyler Sieber and described the sequence of events in an interview with 11Alive.

The incident began as Tyler and Anton Sieber merged onto I-285 northbound from Chamblee Tucker Road. Anton Sieber said another driver crossed traffic and slammed into his car.

"We merged onto 285, and he inexplicably flew across traffic and then ran into the back of my car forcefully, sending me into a 360 spin," Anton Sieber said.

All three drivers initially pulled over after the crash, Anton Sieber said. The other driver then fled the scene. Tyler Sieber followed the fleeing vehicle in his own car.

According to his father, Tyler caught up with the other vehicle at the next off-ramp and began photographing it. He was shot at that point.

DeKalb County police confirmed to 11Alive that they are investigating the shooting as a road rage incident. As of Saturday, July 25, no suspect has been identified and no additional information about a suspect has been released.

Tyler Sieber is survived by his parents, Anton and Christa Sieber, and two sisters. He was the family's only son.

His mother, Christa Sieber, said the family was extremely close. "He spent his weekends and free time with us all the time. We were just really close," she said. His parents described him as someone who loved cars and was always willing to help others.

The Dunwoody-Brookhaven Ledger reported on Friday, July 24, that a death investigation near the Buford Highway exit had shut down I-285 for hours. At that time, police had not confirmed details or identified the victim.
