Dunwoody High School's "Bring It Home" campaign has hit its $1.5 million fundraising goal. The money clears the way for a campus stadium that could make the Wildcats play varsity football at home.
The Dunwoody High School Community Association announced the milestone on Monday, Oct. 5, after roughly a year of fundraising. More than 800 families contributed, with donations ranging from $5 to more than $15,000, according to Atlanta News First.
"It was a grassroots campaign," said Steve Fortenberry, president of the community association and a 1984 Dunwoody High graduate who taught finance at the school for 27 years. "We had over 800 families take part in this, ranging from $5 contributions to thousands of dollars."
The community-raised $1.5 million adds to a lead gift of roughly $1 million from Ryan Seacrest, a Dunwoody High alumnus and the school's most prominent graduate. The total project budget is approximately $2.5 million, according to the What's Up Dunwoody podcast. No taxpayer money is involved. Upon completion, the stadium will be gifted to the DeKalb County School District.
The facility will be called Seacrest Family Field, according to Atlanta News First. The DeKalb County School Board approved a naming recommendation for "Seacrest Stadium" in December 2025; the name appears to have been updated since that vote.
Seacrest played on the Dunwoody football team that won the 1992 AAAA Regional Championship. As a student, he hosted the school's morning announcements.
The renovation will add about 2,000 seats, a ticket booth, restrooms, a concession stand, a press box, green space and fencing to the existing field. Capacity will expand from about 1,000 to roughly 3,000, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. The field can host soccer and lacrosse but lacks the infrastructure for varsity football.
The Wildcats share 6,500-seat North DeKalb Stadium with Chamblee High School, about four miles from campus.
No DeKalb County high school plays home games on its own campus. The late Dunwoody football coach Mike Nash had long dreamed of changing that.
"It's been a dream for maybe 20 years or so," Fortenberry told Atlanta News First.
Construction is expected to begin in November 2026, with completion targeted for summer 2027, according to InsideRadio. If the project stays on schedule, the Wildcats could host their first varsity football game at Seacrest Family Field in August 2027.
