The Dunwoody Police Department's "Cops with Cones" fundraiser drew community members to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams on Monday, July 27, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Georgia.

The department confirmed the event on its official X account that evening, thanking residents who stopped by the Ashford Lane shop at 1230 Ashford Crossing. Four photos posted by the department showed officers and community members together at the ice cream shop.

No fundraising total has been announced. The Ledger previewed the event on July 20, when Jeni's Ashford Lane said it would donate 25 percent of sales to Special Olympics Georgia during the afternoon window. The department has not confirmed a final dollar figure.

Part of a year-long effort

Cops with Cones is the latest in a string of Dunwoody Police fundraisers for Special Olympics Georgia in 2026. Officers and city employees took part in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Acworth Beach on Saturday, February 21. The department's annual Law Enforcement Torch Run followed in March, with officers running alongside colleagues from Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, Norcross, and Hapeville police departments.

On June 6, Dunwoody Police officers, volunteers, and civilian staff staffed both Dunkin' Donuts locations in Dunwoody for National Donut Day, again raising money for Special Olympics Georgia. On June 25, Officer Theresa Hernandez represented the department on the final leg of the Torch Run for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, according to the City of Dunwoody's official account.

No next event announced

The department has not announced its next Special Olympics fundraiser. Residents who want to support Special Olympics Georgia or learn about volunteer opportunities with the Dunwoody Police Department's Community Outreach Unit can contact the department at 678-382-6900.
