The Dunwoody Police Department is asking residents to grab lunch at Chick-fil-A Dunwoody on Friday, Oct. 23, and put part of the tab toward holiday gifts for local children.
The department announced a Community Care Day running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, according to a post on the department's X account. A portion of sales during that window will benefit the department's Christmas for Kids program, which this year operates under the theme "Shop with a Hero."
Customers can participate by opting in through the Chick-fil-A app or telling the cashier they are supporting the program. The department did not specify what percentage of each sale would be directed to Christmas for Kids.
The Shop with a Hero program pairs school-aged children with local first responders for a holiday shopping trip, according to the city's Christmas for Kids page. The city describes the program as giving children a chance to boost their self-esteem and learn about decision-making in a non-intimidating setting.
For the 2026 season, the Dunwoody Police Department is partnering with local schools, DeKalb Fire Rescue, AMR and ChatComm to identify children for the program.
Christmas for Kids launched in 2009. The program is funded by community donations, and the Dunwoody Police Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3), collects monetary contributions year-round. The foundation says 100% of funds collected go toward toys, gifts, food and supplies for program events. Cash and gift cards are not accepted.
Residents who want to donate directly can visit dunwoodypolicefoundation.org and note "Christmas for Kids program" when prompted. Those with questions about the program can call 678-382-6903 or email [email protected].
