Dunwoody-area parents can walk through a mock teen bedroom on Thursday, Nov. 5, and see how drugs, alcohol and vaping products hide in everyday items.
The free Hidden in Plain Sight trailer will be set up at Dunwoody High School from 5 to 8:30 p.m., according to an event listing on The Aha! Connection. Each guided walk-through takes 10 to 15 minutes. The event is open to all adults.
Dunwoody Strong, a parent-run nonprofit at Dunwoody High School focused on substance-misuse prevention, is partnering with the Georgia National Guard Counterdrug Task Force to host the event. The listing describes it as a return visit to the community.
What the walk-through covers
Guides walk visitors through warning signs of teen substance use and hiding spots parents often miss. The experience also shows how substances can be disguised as ordinary household items and offers tips for starting conversations with teens.
The trailer is real.
The Guard's Drug Demand Reduction Outreach program operates it as part of its statewide prevention work, according to a Defense Visual Information Distribution Service report.
The trailer event is being held the same evening as a DeKalb County School District Student Assignment Project public comment meeting at Dunwoody High School, according to the district's website.
