DeKalb County School District (DCSD) police found no credible threat at Lakeside High School after investigating violent messages discovered in a girls' bathroom, the district said Thursday, Oct. 1.

Investigators also identified the person who posted photos of the messages to social media, 11Alive reported. The district did not name the individual or say whether any charges or discipline resulted.

The messages were found in mid-September, according to a letter the principal sent to families on Monday, Sept. 28. The school said it began investigating immediately. But the images did not circulate on social media until that same week, triggering a wave of calls and emails from parents.

WSB-TV reported the messages included violent language referencing a "massacre" and threats of killing. The content alarmed parents at the 2,234-student school on Briarcliff Road.

Parents were split on how to respond. Chantay Matlock, a Lakeside High parent, told WSB-TV on Sept. 28 that she planned to keep her daughter home. She said she didn't want to dismiss the threat, just in case something happened.

Another parent, Maria Juarez, told WSB-TV she was still sending her daughter to school. She said she was worried.

Despite clearing the threat, the district added extra security at Lakeside High on Oct. 1. In a statement that day, the district said increasing security before extended breaks is standard practice and that it would maintain a heightened presence on campus.

The principal's Sept. 28 letter noted that School Resource Officers were working closely with administrators. The district also said it appreciates families and students who reported concerns, calling school safety a shared responsibility.

The district had already tightened campus access over the summer when it rolled out a new Visitor Management System in July, requiring all visitors to present a state-issued ID checked against a nationwide database.

Lakeside High's fall break begins the week of Monday, Oct. 5.
