Dunwoody and Brookhaven residents who use DeKalb County parks and trails can weigh in on the county's next round of park investments at two upcoming public meetings.
The county's Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is updating its Comprehensive Parks Master Plan and wants resident input on priorities for parks, trails, recreation programs and open spaces, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. Both cities sit within DeKalb County, and their parks and trails fall under the county system covered by the plan.
The first meeting is Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 593 Parkdale Drive, Scottdale. A second session is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at East Central DeKalb Community & Senior Center, 4885 Elam Road, Stone Mountain.
The department said in a Sept. 27 announcement that residents, families, park users and community partners are welcome at both sessions. Attendees can share ideas on facility improvements, recreation programs, trail access and open-space needs.
The department's planning page describes the master plan as a countywide framework covering maintenance, equity and access across communities, and long-term capital planning. The department's website calls it a 10-year plan, though the county has not confirmed the time horizon for this specific update.
Capital improvement projects tied to the plan are funded through sources including the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The department also partners with Park Pride and other community organizations on neighborhood-level park planning.
The plan update will set priorities for capital improvements, land acquisition and programming across the county park system, according to the department's announcement. No timeline for completing or adopting the updated plan has been announced.
