A DeKalb County man wanted on a child molestation warrant was arrested more than 200 miles away in Toney, Alabama, on Friday, July 24, after a joint operation by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Robert L. Junior was taken into custody without incident by the sheriff's Criminal Process Fugitive Unit and federal marshals, according to a press release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office. He is being held at the Madison County Jail in Huntsville, Alabama, while awaiting extradition to Georgia to face trial.
The arrest stemmed from an outstanding warrant charging Junior with child molestation in DeKalb County. Authorities have not disclosed details about the circumstances or timeline of the alleged offense.
"No matter where a fugitive goes, we will continue working with our law enforcement partners to bring them back to DeKalb County to face the charges against them," Sheriff Melody M. Maddox said in the press release.
Maddox credited the persistence of the Criminal Process Fugitive Unit and the agency's partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service for making the cross-state arrest possible.
Toney is a small community in Madison County, in northern Alabama near Huntsville. No timeline has been announced for when Junior will be transported to DeKalb County.
The fugitive unit has conducted multiple cross-jurisdictional arrests in 2026, including a murder suspect captured in Houston County, Georgia, and a teen murder suspect arrested in Norcross, both with U.S. Marshals Service assistance.
