Chamblee's girls edged Lakeside 44-47 on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to win the DeKalb County School District varsity cross country championship at Druid Hills Middle School.
The margin: three points. It was enough to give the Bulldogs back-to-back county titles. Chamblee also won the girls' championship in 2025, according to the DCSD athletics department.
On the boys' side, Dunwoody came up just short. Lakeside edged the Wildcats 40-43 for the boys' varsity title, DCSD Athletics said on X. Chamblee's boys finished third with 51 points.
Championship day at Druid Hills MS ran four races, starting with JV girls and ending with varsity boys. Chamblee's JV girls opened the meet with a 26-40 win over Lakeside for the JV title, extending a streak that now reaches five straight JV girls' championships. The Bulldogs won the JV crown by a single point over Lakeside in 2025.
Lakeside had entered the county championships with momentum on the girls' side after winning the girls' race at the DCSD season-opening meet earlier in September. Chamblee flipped the script when it counted most.
Head coach Hakim Felts had stressed mental toughness as a priority heading into the season. "Being mentally tough is imperative to endure the natural adversity that comes with cross country," Felts told The Blue & Gold in August.
Dunwoody's boys, meanwhile, were three points from a championship of their own. The 40-43 loss to Lakeside marked the closest boys' race of the day.
Chamblee's girls finished seventh at the GHSA 5A state championships in 2025, and the boys advanced to sectionals but did not qualify for state. Individual finishing times and places from the Sept. 30 races were not released by DCSD Athletics.
Both programs next compete in the GHSA 5A state series. Sectional and state dates had not been posted as of Sept. 30.
