The DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will take up construction updates on the Brookhaven branch and other library projects when it meets Monday, Aug. 17, at 4:30 p.m.

The meeting takes place at the Darro C. Willey Administrative Center, 3560 Kensington Road, Decatur. Residents who want to listen remotely can request a link by emailing library director Alison Weissinger at [email protected] no later than noon that day, according to a notice posted on the library's website. The notice was published Sunday, Aug. 9.

Weissinger is scheduled to deliver a construction report covering three items: projects funded by SPLOST 2 (the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), the Brookhaven branch and the Doraville branch. The Doraville Library is already operating from a temporary location while its new facility is built as part of the SPLOST 2 program.

No project costs or timelines are listed on the agenda.

The posted agenda also includes a public comment period, a treasurer's report, a DeKalb Library Foundation update from Jill Joplin and a committee report reviewing personnel, internet and gift-and-donation policies. Board officers Jose Paniagua and Carrie Armistead are listed to preside.

The library system operates 23 branches countywide, including the Brookhaven Library and the Dunwoody Library at 5339 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. Both branches are open Monday through Saturday. Residents who use either location have a direct stake in the board's decisions on construction spending and policy changes, though neither branch appears as a separate discussion item beyond the Brookhaven construction update.

The meeting includes a designated public comment period for anyone who attends in person at the Decatur administrative center. The remote listening option does not appear to include a mechanism for remote public comment, based on the library's notice.

The next Board of Trustees meeting after Aug. 17 is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12.
