Brookhaven residents can weigh in on a new crime-data-driven bar staffing law, a second pocket park in under three weeks, and millions in budget changes before the City Council meets Tuesday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Brookhaven City Centre, 4001 Peachtree Road NE.

The meeting's marquee item is a reworked alcohol ordinance that would require late-night establishments to hire off-duty law enforcement based on a risk-scoring system tied to crime data. The council deferred the measure from its June 23 meeting. If approved, it would replace the current occupancy-based staffing approach with a weighted point system, tiered consequences for violations, a nuisance-establishment classification process, and a "serious violent incident override" that could trigger immediate operational changes.

Mayor John Park wrote in a June 2026 letter that Brookhaven's police department consumes 36% of the city's operating budget. The new framework would shift some of that public-safety cost onto nightlife operators flagged by the data.

Pocket park No. 2

Council members will also consider accepting a donated portion of 1578 Lenox Overlook Road for use as a public park. If approved, it would mark the city's second park-land acquisition in under three weeks. On Friday, June 26, the council spent $1.5 million on a 0.95-acre property at 1277 Goodwin Road for future green space.
