A minor car crash in a Dunwoody apartment parking deck turned into a fistfight and then a shooting on Tuesday, Aug. 4, leaving one man with a gunshot wound to the foot and three men facing criminal charges.
Leonardo Dismukes fired five shots at Jalen Wade as Wade ran away following a physical altercation at the Drift Apartments, located at 4000 Dunwoody Park, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, citing an official incident report from Dunwoody Police. The shooting happened around 7 a.m.
Dunwoody Police charged Dismukes with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Officers transported him to the DeKalb County Jail.
How it started
The incident began as a minor private-property vehicle crash in the parking deck between a female driver and Jalen Wade, according to the Dunwoody Police incident report released through Public Information Officer Sgt. Michael Cheek. After the collision, the two began arguing.
Wade's brother, Andrew Wade-Bell, heard the commotion and came to the parking deck. The female driver then called her boyfriend, Dismukes, who arrived and joined the argument. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight involving the three men.
During the fight, a handgun fell from Dismukes' pants. His girlfriend picked up the weapon. Once the fight ended, Dismukes took the gun back and fired at Jalen Wade as he fled, striking him in the foot.
An initial police release on Aug. 4 stated three shots were fired; the updated incident report released Aug. 5 corrected the number to five.
Charges and booking
Police charged both Wade brothers with simple assault for their roles in the fight that preceded the shooting.
Andrew Wade-Bell was transported to the DeKalb County Jail. Jalen Wade was taken to North Fulton Hospital for treatment of what the department described as a non-life-threatening injury. He was to be transported to DeKalb County Jail after receiving medical attention, Rough Draft Atlanta reported.
The incident report was also released through Chief of Police Michael W. Carlson.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 5, the DeKalb County Jail had no record of the three suspects, who may have already posted bond. No bond amounts have been released.
The female driver's identity has not been released, and she has not been charged.
Police confirmed all parties remained at the scene after the shooting and said there was no ongoing threat to the public. No court dates have been announced.
