A man was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, after he stole a firearm from Academy Sports + Outdoors off Perimeter Center Parkway, according to Dunwoody police.
Officers responded to a shoplifting call at the store that morning, according to Dunwoody Police Sgt. Michael Cheek, who provided details of the incident to Fox 5 Atlanta. The man had entered the store and taken a firearm, police said.
When the suspect spotted responding officers, he ran on foot.
Dunwoody police called on the Sandy Springs Police Department to help search the area. Officers from both departments located the man and took him into custody without further incident, according to police.
No one was injured, and officers recovered the stolen firearm and returned it to the store, Atlanta News First reported.
The suspect is being held at the DeKalb County Jail, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Police had not released the suspect's name or age as of Thursday. Formal charges had not been specified either, according to both reports.
The Dunwoody Police Department has not issued a public statement or press release about the incident. It is unclear whether the firearm was taken from a display case or store inventory, and police have not said whether the suspect had any prior connection to the store.
