Brookhaven's fourth annual International Festival lands at a new home Oct. 17-18, bringing headlining acts, international food and a 5K that can qualify runners for the Peachtree Road Race.

The two-day festival runs Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Brookhaven Park, 4158 Peachtree Road NE. The park replaces the Buford Highway Cultural Corridor as the event's venue, a move the city announced in an Aug. 18 press release.

Atlanta-born singer and actor Olly Sholotan headlines Saturday alongside Cumbiatron, a Latin American cumbia music and dance act. Sholotan, known for playing Carlton Banks in Peacock's Bel-Air, has performed at SXSW and The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. K-pop group DROP, a five-member boy group that released its digital single "Booster" in January, takes the Sunday stage. The city said additional performers will be announced later.

The lineup is new. The festival also features art installations, international cuisine, a Kidz Zone and a global marketplace.

For runners, the big draw is Sunday's 5K walk/run on the Peachtree Creek Greenway, 1793 Briarwood Road. The course is USATF-certified, according to the city, which means a finish time there can count toward start-wave placement in the Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race. The Atlanta Track Club accepts qualifying times from USATF-certified 5K courses.

The 5K benefits We Love Buford Highway, a nonprofit that preserves the multicultural identity of the Buford Highway corridor. Proceeds support the Buford Highway Orchestra Program, a free afterschool music program for local children. Executive Director Lily Pabian said in the city's August announcement that 96 young musicians have participated in the program.

"I welcome everyone to come out for our fourth year and celebrate the many cultures that call Brookhaven home," Mayor Pro-Tem John Funny said in the Aug. 18 announcement. "We are in a new location this year … easily accessible via MARTA and our provided shuttles."

Free shuttles will run from Apple Valley Road behind the MARTA parking lot. Organizers encourage attendees to bring water, chairs or blankets, sunscreen and bug spray.

District 3 Council Member Madeleine Simmons, whose district includes Brookhaven Park, said in the same announcement that the park is ready to showcase improvements made since the city took ownership.
